Shaping the new generation
Dean Margetts, a former Australian Football League (AFL) umpire, officiated in over 300 AFL matches during his career. Margetts began his umpiring career in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) before making his AFL debut in 2002.
Margetts is known for his calm and composed demeanour on the field, respected by players and coaches alike for his ability to control the game. Margetts umpired in six AFL Grand Finals, including the 2018 Grand Final, his final game. Since retiring, he has worked as an AFL umpiring coach, helping to develop the next generation of umpires.
