My overriding memory of Michael, my younger brother, is of someone who before his health deteriorated was good humoured, cheerful and always seemed to have a smile on his face. At the age of 8 he said he didn’t have a best friend because everyone was his friend. Beneath the friendly facade was someone who never sought the limelight but nevertheless was quietly ambitious and determined to succeed in life. This he undoubtedly did with his successful medical career and providing for his family. He adored his wife, Sheila, and was very proud of the achievements of his two children. On the occasions I met him in Australia he was always very generous and welcoming. Growing up we were a very close family and I was honoured to be the best man at his wedding. Although geography limited direct contact especially since Covid, he will always remain someone who was very dear to me.
